My major project for my BA Hon in Fine Art is an exhibition in the heart of Langvlei Farm, Riebeek West, South Africa. This exhibition showcases wire nest sculptures that weave together community, care, and resilience themes.

Kalahari Hotel 2024 draws inspiration from the massive communal nests of sociable weaver birds. Each wire creation explores how we build spaces of safety while reflecting on how we distance ourselves from nature and each other. Drawing on personal experiences, the work embodies the tension between nurturing and letting go in human and natural relationships.

The images below show the start of this exploration. Here, I made a nest inspired by the sociable weavers.

FORMAL INVITATION as shared for the opening evening:

This invitation for the opening evening was an active PDF, so the links to the website and my IG account should work.

I created a group on social media to share the exhibition a bit wider. Here, I had 124 interested.
