A dialogue of contrasts
Xhuan paper scrolls with marks of plant material
Inspired by paper traditions and ways to work with its materiality, this work tells a story of transformation: one captures the organic image on a pristine surface, while the other physically embodies the compressed, weathered nature of a living plant, rubbed into the surface of the paper. In these explorations, the paper vessels and scrolls act as “recording devices” for natural and tactile histories, as a rubbing is inherently an archaeological act—it maps out pastness, ageing, and the “skin” of an environment.
